A flat roof also has a slope so that the rain can drain away. That is between 3 ° and 5 °. Either the base layer already has this slope or it can also be created by inclined insulation boards, fillings or a screed
A distinction is made between heavy and light roof constructions for flat roofs. The heavy structures are made of reinforced concrete, the light ones are wooden structures or trapezoidal sheet metal. A heavy construction has the great advantage that it is much more pleasant and cooler in the room in summer. The heat is stored longer in the concrete roof and only released again slowly. It stays cool inside.
A flat roof must be waterproofed with particular care. The roof edge and its sealing is particularly complex. Simple rectangular floor plans are therefore cheaper
The inverted roof has the advantage that the roof skin lies under the thermal insulation and is therefore protected from large temperature differences and the direct sun. As a result, the roof skin is more durable and the risk of damage is reduced
The pent roof only consists of a single sloping roof surface and is therefore sometimes called half-pitched roof. The minimum distances to be observed are usually measured according to the wall height. Depending on the slope, sloping ceilings do not have to be included fully or not at all. Roofs up to 45 ° are often not taken into account
Basically, the simpler the roof shape, the cheaper the roof. Therefore, gable roof, pent roof or false roof are cheaper than other roof shapes. Throats, ridges, oriels, projections, skylights or dormers increase
